A good PU injection machine will control:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mixing ratio<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shut (amount injected)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Material temperature<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you manufacture safety shoes (specially two densities PU soles), quoting a two componentes machine is a must, you\u2019ll be let down by low-end machines that never inject correctly (mould with bubbles, density inconsistent, etc). That\u2019s where, from my POV, 99% of \u201ccheap line\u201d problems arise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2) Rotary Moulding Machine<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another way of saying \u201ccarousel system\u201d which means that a table rotates and joins all the stations to a singled-out common workflow:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Injection from previous station<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Curing (heating)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demould<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important factors:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Of stations (12 \/ 18 \/ 24 being common)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cycle time (length) for each station<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stability of the heating system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If someone tells output\/h, never quotes the station number and cycle time in h\/mold, it\u2019s guessing selling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3) Alu Shoe Moulds<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Direct relation with quality of end product:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How accurate are mould cavities machined<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Venting (air, binges) = how many loss defects due to no air venting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mould surface treatment (affects both finishing and mould release).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Bad mould, defects galore, no matter how good the machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4) Preheating Oven for the Moulds<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What it is, and why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s where you preheat the mould itself so the PU will flow nicely into it (keeps finish lay all over the sole). Preheating of the mould before injection is vital; again, it\u2019s a matter usually snubbed in order to save costs at installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5) Cooling System<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After curing, careful cooling of the mould\/sole is vital so the sole will \u201cfreeze\u201d correctly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This generally consist of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cooling conveyor or cooling station.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Air or water assisted cooling<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Without proper cooling, your soles may:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Deform<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not be dimensionally accurate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. Air Compressor System<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We are relying a lot on pneumatic control in PU machines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Valve operation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mixing head or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Automation of the entire system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Instability in air supply leads to inconsistent injection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>7. Raw Material Storage &amp; Feeding System<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s no use having a high speed PU shoemaking machine if you don\u2019t control how you load pieces of material into it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Polyol &amp; isocyanate storage tanks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Temperature control units<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Metering and feeding system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For the more sophisticated plants, this may even be integrated with the automatic feeding of material into the machine as in BASF Haptex systems<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>8. Safety Shoe Upper Preparation Area<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While this is no part of the PU machinery as outlined above, it is an adjunct necessary for total production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Heating the upper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applying primer (if needed)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Placing in position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Most bonding failure between upper and sole is NOT in the PU injection machine, it occurs at this point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>9. Post-Processing Equipment<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you demould your shoes, they will need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trimming<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other finishing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inspection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>That will determine whether your product is superior or substandard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>10. Optional Automation &amp; Upgrades<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have the budget and the desired volume you wish to achieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Robot arm for easy demoulding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Automatic mould release spraying<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MES to keep track of production<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modules for remote trouble shooting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are not a necessity but relieve the need for labour input and reduce variances in the product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Most Suppliers Won\u2019t Tell You<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A PU safety shoe \u201cproduction line\u201d is not simply about the things on a checklist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither is it a matter if you already have equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should be focusing on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensuring that your machine produces at a rate that isn\u2019t too fast or slow for the mould cycle time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Balancing heating, injection and cooling to be just right and not one predominant feature, at the expense of others<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Making sure that YOUR material system is compatible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And that\u2019s why simply having two factories with \u201csimilar equipment lists\u201d does NOT \u201cguarantee\u201d similar results!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Final Thought<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you intend to start a PU safety shoes factory, understand this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You shouldn\u2019t be asking<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat machines do I need?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should instead be asking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow do I build a stable, matched production system?\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because you can always buy equipment if you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Designing a working production line is the challenge!<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1) PU Injection (Pouring) Machine The heart of the line!
